Section C: Summary Writing (30 Marks)
Summary writing is the easiest way to get 30 marks WAEC 2026 English Language questions if you follow the “Rule of One.”
• The Rule: Write only one sentence per point.
• No Preamble: Do not start with “The author said that…” or “According to the passage…” Start directly with the point.
• Grammar Matters: A summary point with a grammatical error is often marked zero. Keep your sentences short and simple.
Answers to Summary questions are not needed to be extensively long.
Test of Orals (Paper 3)
The 2026 Test of Orals will heavily feature Stress Patterns and Rhymes.
• Emphatic Stress: Look for the word in CAPITAL LETTERS. The correct answer is usually the one that contradicts that word.
• Vowel Sounds: Master the difference between /i:/ (as in Seat) and /i/ (as in Sit). WAEC repeats these two every single year.
Important Update For WAEC 2026 English Language: The Digital Marking System
Starting this year, WAEC is using more Digital Scanning for script marking. This means you must write legibly within the margins.
